NOVY JICIN -
the town is first mentioned in 1313 o the historical
core of the town was declared urban conservation area in
1967 o the main square with a rectangular network of
streets is among the purest examples of medieval town
design in this country o an unbroken circle of town
FORTIFICATIONS with a renaissance polygonal bastion from
the year 1613 o the Zerotin CASTLE, formerly a gothic
stone house, a complex of gothic and renaissance
buildings rebuilt and unified in 1538-41, today there is
a regional MUSEUM of local history and art with the
exhibitions of the hat fashion history, the town history
and exhibition rooms o the TOWN HALL was rebuilt in neo-renaissance
style in 1930 o the renaissance house "STARA POSTA" {the
old post-office} from the year 1563 has a rate arcade
façade, in 1800 the Russian general Suvorov spent the
night here and in 1813 the Russian Tsar Alexander I.
stopped here, the well-known Austrian general Laudon
died in one of the houses on the main square in 1790 o
the CHURCH of OUR LADY'S ASSUMPTION in baroque style
from the years 1729-32 with inner baroque decoration,
sculptures by Ondrej Zahner and Jan Kammereit and
paintings by Frantisek Elias Herbert o the church SPIRE
in renaissance style from the years 1587-1629 with a
dome by Ignac Kloss, a local constructor, from the year
1854 o the trinity church from the end of the 15th
century was later rebuilt, the valuable inner decoration
from the second half of the 17th century o the SPANISH
CHAPEL, a pilgrimage church in baroque style from the
years 1724 - 27 on the site of a mass grave of Spanish
soldiers killed in the battle of Novy Jicin in 1621 o
the dominating features of the main square are the
COLUMN of OUR LADY and the FOUNTAIN with the sculpture
of The Dancing Peasants by Frenatisek Barwing from the
year 1929 o the MEMORIAL to Johann Gregor Mendel, the
founder of genetics, by Josef Obeth from the year 1930
Is situated in Smetana park.
NOVY JICIN - LIBHOST - The reconstructed BAILIFF'S
RESIDENCE built after 1772 {the biggest in the region} -
a WIND MILL of the Dutch type.
NOVY JICIN - LOUCKA - St. ROCH'S and St.
SEBASTIAN'S SCULPTURE from the year 1715, the use of the
local emblem is an interesting and unique phenomenon in
rural heraldry.
NOVY JICIN - ZILINA - St. NICHOLAS'S CHURCH from
the second half of the 13th century o the CHAPEL with
the PLAGUE TABLET is a memorial to man's struggle with
the plague in 1715.
ODRY - a distinctive town founded at the end of
the 13th century on a raised alluvial terrace on the
right bank of the river Odra o urban conservation zone o
St. BARTHOLOMEW'S CHURCH in gothic style with
reticulated vaulting in the presbytery, some alterations
in baroque decorations with the main altar piece by
Ignac Günther o in the church tower is the oldest BELL
in Moravia from the year 1374 o the remains of the
ramparts with a circular BASTION evidence the presence
of the Hussite garrison in town headed by the prince
Zikmund Korybutovic o there are many valuable BURGHERS'
HOUSES on the main square and in the adjoining streets
as well as the STATUE of the VIRGIN MARY and the
FOUNTAIN with the cast-iron sculpture by Emil Zimmermann
from the year 1897 o sculptures of St. John Nepomuk and
St. Francis in baroque style were transferred from the
old St. John's bridge across the river Odra
ODRY - KAMENKA - the TRINITY CHURCH in baroque
style from the end of the 18th century
OLBRAMICE - St. BARTHOLOMEW'S CHURCH in
pseudoromantic style has gothic foundations
PRIBOR - the oldest town in the region mentioned
as early as 1251 the TRINITY CHURCH in the historical
core of the town was declared the urban conservation
area o the dominating feature of the town is the CHURCH
of OUR LADY'S BIRTH in gothic and renaissance styles
with many later alterations, baroque decoration with
votive paintings by Antonin Volny o the main square with
an ARCADE and valuable burghers' houses {in one of them,
Jan Sarkander lived as a child} o the PIARIST COLLEGE
built in the years 1694 - 1700 according to the design
of G. Pietro Tencally, an architect from Vienna, inside
the historic complex of buildings there is a MUSEUM with
a superb baroque refectory, valuable monastery library,
permanent exhibition concerning the history of the town
and a permanent exhibition concerning the life and work
of Sigmund Freud {1856 - 1939} who was a native of
Pribor o St. VALENTINE'S CHURCH from the years 1760-66
with paintings by Ignac Raab and Felix Ivo Leicher o the
CHURCH of the HOLY CROSS was built in 1611 o the baroque
SCULPTURE of the VIRGIN MARY from the year 1713 and the
cast-iron FOUNTAIN from the year 1898 can be seen on the
main square.
RYBI - the CHURCH of the DISCOVERY of the HOLY
CROSS with a shingle roof is a valuable example of folk
architecture from the 15th century, it was renovated in
1846 with the decoration in baroque style o the CHAPLES
of the Way of the Cross leading to pilgrimage churches
situated on the hill Kotouc u Stramberka were built in
the 19th century.
SEDLNICE - originally a renaissance CASTLE,
rebuilt in Empire style in 1827-36 {the favorite place
of stay of the German poet Josef Eichendorff is
commemorated by the MEMORIAL in front of the castle}
SKOTNICE - the WAYSIDE SHRINE with a unique shape
was built in the first half of the 19th century
SLATINA - the baroque CASTLE was built in 1775 o
the CASTLE PARK is notable for its exotic trees o St.
JOHN NEPOMUK'S CHAPEL
SPALOV - a distinctive Czech settlement in the
woods of Oderske vrchy {the Oder Heights} o the original
stronghold was rebuilt into a CASTLE in 1695 o the
CASTLE PARK with interesting exotic trees o the CHURCH
of St. JAMES the BIGGER in baroque style with gothic
presbytery, a spire was built on the top of the church
in 1760 o a place of pilgrimage and a resort in the
woody valley of the river Odra called MARIA VE SKALE
{Mary in the Rock}, the original "Graceful" painting was
replaced by the rock sculpture of the Virgin Mary at the
end of the 19th century
STARY JICIN - the romantic RUINS of gothic CASTLE from
the 13th century are increasingly attractive for
tourists o St. WENCESLAS'S CHURCH, originally gothic
building from the 14th century, was rebuilt and extended
in the years 1706-15 o the renaissance BELFRY from the
beginning of the 17th century o a well-preserved WALL
with baroque sculptures and a connecting corridor from
the CASTLE o the baroque SCULPTURES on the wall of the
former manor garden were made by Josef Gallas, a
sculptor from Hranice o a well-preserved EXECUTION POST
reminiscent of the municipal criminal court.
STUDENKA - There is a CARRIAGE MUSEUM in
renaissance CASTLE
STUDENKA - BTOVICE - ALL SAINT'S CHURCH in
baroque style from the year 1830
STUDENKA - NOVA HORKA - a romantic baroque
CASTLE built after 1742, rebuilt in the 19th century, it
has a beautiful sala terrena and valuable frescos o the
CASTLE PARK is separated from the former game preserve
by a stream o Nova Horka was called "The Little Vienna"
because of its rich cultural life.
SUCHDOL n. Odrou - the TRINITY CHURCH in
renaissance style with duplicated cupola on the spire
and with gothic rests from the year 1605 o the baroque
PARSONAGE built around 1730 by Jan Lukas Hildebrandt, a
constructor from Vienna o the EVANGELICAL CHURCH - a
significant building in the style of Moravian romantic
historicism, Ludwig Föster, a well-known constructor
from Vienna, participated in the construction of the
church.
