Stramberske usi - Stramberk's ears {the legend}. At the beginning of May 1241 the Tartars invaded Moravia. People started to leave their homes and they ran away to a hardly accessible Kotouc mountain. Many Tartars settled just around this mountain. The night before Ascension of Christ the wild storm came. The Christians that were hidden at Kotouc, dug through the dams of the lake and they flooded out a camp of the Tartars. Some Christians though were killed and their ears were cut off and the Tartars sent them in bags to their Khan. Annually on the day of the Ascension of Christ the wake at Kotouc Mountain is held. It is a memory to a marvelous rescue of the Christians from the Tartars. For memory gingerbread called "Stramberk ears" is baked and sold just in Stramberk.
