Rožnov pod Radhoštěm is important tourist and
recreational center of Moravian-Sileasian region. The
town and its surrounding gives many opportunities for
tourists walks, for sking, swimming with wide offer of
catering and acomodation services.The town is ussually
called the heart or the gate of Beskydy mountain
The Wallaschien Museum
The Wallaschian Museum in the oper air has become an
unforgettable site for all visitors coming to the
Wallaschian region and to its picturesque town of Rožnov
pod Radhoštěm. In this museum, there are gathered all
documents on traditional folk culture, on the way of
life, on work and habits and arts of its population -
that of the Carpathian region of Moravia and Silesia.
The Wooden small town shows, how burghers and townpeople
lived, their living standarts and habitation, how lived
their magistrate, the way of life and work of its
artisans, craftsmen and tradesmaen. On buildings and
houses brought here from different parts of the region
one can find - in addition to home features - also the
Middle - European influence of the Rennaissance, baroque
and Empire periods.
The way of life, of housekeeping and farming, of
supplementary occupations of a Wallaschian village and
its inhabitants is shown to visitors in the Wallaschian
Village which has been built since the early sixtieth.
One can find here not only houses but also farm and
household buildings.
The Mill Walley is a museum area of water driven
technical devices and machinery and includes a water
mill, a fulling mill, a one-blade water sawmil and an
oil pressing mill. In operation is also the
reconstrukted water hammer mill.
A picture of the material living enviroment of a village
and of a small town is substualy integrated and
supplemented with the events of a local festival - that
of the already traditional Folklore Summer - organised
reguarly every year. The balanced structure of its
program is extraordinarily rich and includes samples
from almost all branches of spiritual and social life.
To this, also traditional Rožnov festivals, and
performances, given by folk song and dance companies,
smiths' and farriers'days, Wallachian fairs and others
can be added..
