A number of folk cultures with quite personal expressions in terms of architecture, folk costumes and customs have their homes within the territory of the tourist region of North Moravia and Silesia.
The traditional folk costumes today, only serve a ceremonial purpose, having been renewed according to old museum samples for folk singing and dancing groups. They can be seen at performances at folklore festivals.
Wallachia
Wallachia is a mountainous region in the south-east part of the region with significant centres in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm, Rožnov pod Radhostem, Bystrice pod Hostynem, Valasské Klobouky, Vsetin and Vizovice.
The Wallachian folk costume was originally the dress of a shepherding people and consequently lacked an extravagant colourfulness. Characteristic is a modest embroidery, subdued coloured materials (varied-coloured vests, white and black skirts and blue printed aprons. Peasant shoes or slippers served as footwear. Dancing was accompanied by singing along with a bagpipes, pipes or violin and a small dulcimer.
Residences throughout the territory of Wallachia have similar features and in the 18th, 19th and beginning of the 20th century, the Carpathian timber structure was typical |
